Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all of them must win for the bet to pay out.
- American Odds
- Odds expressed as a positive or negative number; positive odds show profit on a $100 bet, negative odds show how much you must stake to win $100.
- Asian Handicap
- A betting line that gives one team a half‑goal or whole‑goal advantage or disadvantage to make the match more balanced for betting.
- Bankroll
- The total money you have set aside for placing bets.
- Bookmaker
- A company that sets odds and accepts bets on sporting events.
- Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
- A bet on whether each team will find the net at least once during the game.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, securing a profit or cutting a loss.
- Correct Score
- A prediction of the exact final score of a match, such as 2‑1.
- Decimal Odds
- A way of expressing odds as a single number (e.g., 2.50) that includes your stake in the total payout.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes (win/draw, win/lose, or draw/lose) in one wager.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet that removes the draw outcome; if the match ends in a draw, your stake is refunded.
- Edge
- Your perceived statistical advantage over the bookmaker’s odds.
- First Goalscorer
- A wager on which player will score the first goal of the match.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds shown as a fraction (e.g., 3/2) that indicate the profit you make relative to your stake.
- Half‑Time/Full‑Time
- A bet that predicts the result at half‑time and again at the final whistle.
- Juice
- The commission or fee a bookmaker adds to the odds, also called vigorish or vig.
- KYC
- The process of verifying a bettor’s identity to prevent fraud, underage gambling, and money laundering.
- Live Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is being played, with odds that change as the action unfolds.
- Moneyline
- A straightforward bet on which team will win the match, with odds reflecting each team’s chances.
- Over/Under
- A wager on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be higher or lower than a set figure.
- Player Props
- Bets on individual player performances, such as goals, assists, cards, or minutes played.
- Responsible Gambling
- Practices and tools that help you stay in control of your betting, such as setting deposit limits or taking breaks.
- Spread
- The points or goals handicap that the favorite must overcome for a bet to win.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds seem higher than the true chance of the outcome, giving you a potential edge.
